How to Organize Closets

Whether you’ve just moved to a new place or you simply have had it with all the mess you find in your closet every time you open it, you might want to try a few tips on how to organize and maintain a neat closet.
First things first, there is no way of organizing your closet when it’s full of clothes, so make sure you get everything out and start cleaning the inside of the closet. Use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum all the dust and dirt, make sure you thoroughly wipe the walls of the closet using a good cleaner, and get rid of all the cobwebs.
After doing this, it’s time to start planning. Look at the pile of clothes lying on the floor, pick up each one of them at a time and decide whether you want to keep it or maybe donate it. You might be surprised how much unnecessary clothing you’ve stashed up in your closet for years, but never actually wore it. It’s time to fix this problem and make more room for the clothes you actually do wore on a regular basis. This is not a good time to get all sentimental, so maintain an objective view at all times, try on everything you are not sure about, see if it fits you or if it matches the rest of your wardrobe and put aside everything else.
Next, look out the window and check out the current season. If it’s winter, make sure you store your summer clothing somewhere else. For instance, put all your dresses and T-shirts in a box under your bed. If your aren’t lucky enough to have such an additional storage space, you can try doing the following: store your winter clothes at one end of your closet, and the summer clothes at the other end. Thus, you can still keep the organized impression when looking into your closet.
Speaking of organizing, you need to find the right system. You can either organize your clothing by type, occasion, sleeve length and color. A really simple system is shirts go with shirts, pants go with pants and so on. Think about your daily needs and place everything where you can find and reach it easily. Use many hangers, but not on sweaters or loose knits in general. Fold them instead on a shelf or chest.
Now that you’re done, make sure you repeat the procedure as often as you need to.
